What Size hooks to use

i am new at fishing in the river an i wanted to know what size hooks to use for fishing sockeye and springs in the rivers. i have heard that 3/0 or 4/0 is good but wanted to know what works better.

I only use a 3/0 hook on the fraser and on the other systems(veddar, chehalis, stave and allouette) I use a #2 or a #4 size hook depending on the water clarity. The clearer the water the smaller the hook. On the fraser unlike other places size does matter  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D .
