Lower fraser North arm sept. 9th. (they are here!)
« on: September 09, 2006, 09:16:30 PM »

fished the lower fraser north arm (near marine drive and knight st. bridge), with spin n glo from 5:30pm till 7:30pm. i didn't catch anything though, no bite at all, but i saw something inspiring.... a few jumpers, one sturgeon and the rest were salmon. i noticed clearly that two of them actually had purple and greenish bar on their bodies.... yup, the chums are here!  That was just exciting to see!  I've had lots of action and great memories with the chums last year at the stave and mamquam, hopefully they will be at the stave soon :)

Their are always some early ones. When I went to buy some sockeye last week from the commercial guy he had 2 in his net. October will be the month when they come in thick. Just getting excited is a good thing though as October is my favorite month of the year  ;D

Just a question, isn't the lower river closed right now?

Lower/tidal is still opened. ;) You are only allowed to keep chinook and chum salmon. All coho (both wild and hatchery), sockeye salmon, wild steelhead, wild bull trout, wild cutthroat trout are required to be released. There is also a bait ban when fishing for salmon. These restrictions will last until October 6th.

Full notice is here:

Chum will come in as early as late August. :) When they are not thick like now, it's rare to hook one in the tidal Fraser. Around mid to late October, when ever incoming tide brings in thousands, then the reel will be singing. :D

Thanks Rodney, So no bait then, which means that Barfing the lower is out.  But chucking spoons isn't. :)
