Stave 16 Oct
« on: October 16, 2006, 06:11:21 PM »

Hit the Stave around 10 am low low conditions allot of people in the area I normally have to myself . Hit a fresh Chum on my fifth cast unfortunately foul hooked . Continued to hook em all foul hooked this was disappointing me as I normally hook them in the mouth while fishing spoons . So I changed over to a Float and a Colorado Blade and first cast float goes down Chum on and in the mouth ;D but it proved to be too much for my 14 lb leader and there goes my only Colorado blade :(. So on goes the pink and peach wool 5 casts later another Dog in the mouth and this trend continued most of the morning . Then the Tide started to flood and they were moving in in huge numbers you could see them coming up with the tide so back to spoons and this proved to be the wise choice as 5 casts 5 fish all in the mouth and all the guys drifting wool notta tap . One guy was fly fishing and he was doing great non stop hook ups . Nice way to spend my Birthday hooking salmon in the sunshine gotta love this time of the year .

I fished the stave saturday afternoon out of my pontoon boat. Got the electric motor on it and running. Boy does that thing fly. Great for savin' the effort of paddling up river. Anyway, i was flyfishing and only had one "bite" that i know was a take and it felt light so i question wheather it was a coho or not. But no sooner did i lift my rod tip and the fish was gone. I hooked a few chum clean in the mouth and more foul. But was not able to land anything. Almost time to bump up to a bigger rod. It was a good day and i scouted some spots i'll fish hard now that i know coho will be moving through.
