Fished a local bar on the Fraser yesterday.  Saw lots risers, mostly chum (a few chrome ones) and some coho. I flogged my whole tackle box (various spoons, spinners, blades, jigs, fresh cured coho roe.) at them but no bites for me and everyone else there.  Water was very clear.  What type of setup do you guys use when bar fishing on the lower (sliding weight or T-bars)?  Do you keep your drag loose and clicker on with the sliding setup? Do you use a different setup for slack water vs current?  I noticed most people use the rod holders that keep your rod somewhat perpendicular to the water is there an advantage to using those over the ones used for barfishing with a spin and glo on the upper?

I've been out for two outings on the lower Fraser (Coquitlam mouth and Brownsville bar).  Ive seen lots of anglers and lots of fish but not even one fish being played or dead on the beach.  Ive fished the outgoing and  incoming tides and watched as fish after fish swims by not paying any attention to roe on the bottom, spoons, spinners and even float fishing roe.  All ive seen caught is one Sturgeon about 4' long.  Pretty frustrating fishing.

going to head out on sunday was wondering any good places to go with a boat as my buddy and  i don't any lower Fraser places ,he's just dying to try the boat and I'm dying to hook up with some fish,  I've seen guys under the Alex Fraser and Patullio bridge any help would be great.

Nuggy  thanks for the explanation on the rod holder, etc.   how far apart to you seperate your T-bars from the weight and each other and how long are your leaders?  I know most guys use dog roe on the lower but I have never actually bonked a chum because I always have lots of spring/coho roe in the freezer.  But in a couple weeks I'll be heading up to the squish,  if I hook into a decent one I'll be bonkin it.

Troutbreaths 14 step fish for success theory, if your fishing from a boat;
1. Use an ounce or less weight (just enough to get it to the bottom)
2. Fish one rig 6 inches up from the weight
3. Fish the other a foot above that
4. Use about 8 inches of leader
5. Use #4 hooks
6. Use chump roe and egg loop to hold in place
7. Cast about 25 to 40 feet behind boat
8. Use anchors front and back of boat so you can see hits on your rod, and not the boat swirling around town
9. Use a fish finder to find closest channel to shore strart there work your way out
10. Keep the finder alarm on so you know if your on the money
11. Fish 2 hours before a tide change to 2 hours after so you know which side the bite is on
12  Know which bars have a bite at high tide or low tide
13 Watch the rod tip (not DVD) for the slightest movement pull back slow till you feel the fish, then hard back on the rod to set the hook
14 Hoot like a banshee so everyone knows your the champ with a fish on

For the bank maggots, bring lots of set ups for the snags.

snags? i've been fishing the lower fraser for many years from shore and not a boat  and i can honestly say snags where i fish are very rare! sand or gravel sloping shores are the places to fish for salmon that i've found! gonna fish the tides today and see what happends!
