I'm heading up to the Vedder for the first time this weekend and am going to fish for Coho casting crocs and spoons.  I have the map from Fred's and it being my first time on the river, where should I go to cast spoons in a more quiet location but still with fish around?  I don't want to take part in anything like the KWB but still want to catch fish - any advice on this river would be great!

Go exploring!!, If you drive down the canal there are a few places there with less people and some fish!

unfortunately quiet spots dont last if you mention them even once.  Really though, the advice I took was "just explore"....and it was good!  Found some great spots and got some exercise in the process.  Much more rewarding!  And ya, spoons and crocs are great.

If you are fishing spoons and spinners, my recommendation would be to fish the "ponds" between Peach Road and the canal right now. The ones around the railway bridge should be pretty good. Make sure you start at first light.

Did you get my email awhile ago regarding spoons and some more suggsetions on river trout?

Ya Rod - I did get the email - thank you!  Let me know when you have some more of those.  In the mean time I'm going to get myself some Croc's and hit the Vedder on Saturday morning around 7:00 am or so.  10 lb test should do the trick eh or should I go heavier with all the chum around?

10 lb is enough even for a big spring as long as you do not force it. Just check your line and knots every time after you had a big fish on. You are increasing your catching chances with lighter line.

Actually a leader is not neccessary If your rod has 8-12lb main line. However if you are tossing a spinner with 20lb main line then yes use a leader.  Also If your spinner does not weigh enough then add on some pencil lead which will  require you  to tie a leader!

Thanks!  I think that I'll be fishing 10lb line and casting croc's, so I don't think I should need extra bait or a leader in that case.  Are there any specific colors or sizes that I should get to target Coho?

hammered brass fire stripe 3/8 ounce.

Typically for coho if youre casting 8lb you wont need a leader as the spinners or spoons will be heavy enough.....typically being the key word.
