So my friend and I decided to take the boat out today for its first run. We are entered in the Sturgeon Derby next week ( Put on by the boys at Riverside Tackle who have a great selection of Sturgeon gear
)
So Tim arrives at my place shortly after 7am. We get the boat already and head to the launch.
We get their and put her in. So far so good. Engine take a bit to warm up but other than that smooth as butter. So we decided to throw some hardware for some coho early on. We try for a couple hours but no luck. Only about 3'' of visibilty so I was not too let down since I knew it was going to be tough. Lots of fish on the finder though.
Now on to the sturgeon fishing. I pick a nice spot and we setup. Day is looking good. No rain just overcast and a beautiful rainbow just overhead
Not long after my rod is in the water my rod sets off. I hook it and fight it for a few minutes. Fish off. OK so that was the warmup. Not long after I get into another one. This time we get her to the boat. About a 4.5 footer. I was just glad to have caught the first fish in my boat.
Tim was up next and landed a nice little 3 footer. I wanted to hold this fish since I have some photos of me with sturgeon but never holding one.
Here is another one we released
Tim gets into the biggest of the day. I was trying to get it on video but Tim kept whining about needing my help :lol: So I tried and tried but the fish than got wrapped up around the anchor rope and I had to act fast and get it untangled. After 15 or so mins Tim gets it close to the boat. Nearly 6 feet and we sent it on its way.
In total we got about 8 or 9 and lost a few more. We also had a great time and I am VERY happy with my boat. It is my new best friend
Thanks for a great day Tim
One more for the road
Here are the video links ( Video is not the best but its still something
) Another person on the boat would have made this perfect.
