Fishing report November 18th, 2006
« on: November 20, 2006, 01:05:38 PM »

I woke up at 3:00am Saturday as I can never sleep the night before hitting the flow. Left downtown Van at 4:45am to pick up my buddy, left his place at 5:15 am and headed to the Chehalis. Parked near the hatchery as this seemed the right thing to do.

Walked the trail marked by the hatchery folks and headed toward the river ....what river? Besides a few spots that magically had some water in them, there was no river. Saw three guys in front of us and thinking they must know something, fell in behind them to see where we would end up. Big mistake ! One of the guys throws his gear into a puddle packed full of dying chum and snags one. He neglected to yell fish on ! Yeah..time to turn around and go back to the car.

Pack-up and head down river and see this bridge and then a bunch of trucks ....this must be a fishing spot. Jump out and walk up river a bit and sure enough there are about 7 guys there. Chuck the lines in for awhile but the water is running so fast. Besides the odd Lord Chumley being caught ...nada ....nein ....nyet .....

So what to do? The fishing bug has taken over, we head back and hit the Nicomen Slough / Norrish Creek which have considerably better conditions, good vis and apparently at least one guy got a jack coho. Chuck the lines in, tried my home made colorado's and various wool combinations but it looks like roe / roe like hook ups are the thing for the day. No fish, nada, nein, nyet, nao, nothing ....

So you might figure we should just call it a day and go home ......yeah well ....not me ....we drive to Squamish and there are only maybe 15 guys there. Not a good sign ..or maybe ....always the optimist. Long story short ....I had two hook ups which I know were big ugly Chums ....my buddy had better luck and by that I mean he caught more (and lost more gear) than I did.

Not sure how many km's I put on the Jetta that day but what a gong show. Got home around 6:45pm and slept....did not dream of fish ....

Sassy, this is what you missed :) Didn't get your message until afterwords.

I did a very similar thing on Sunday  ;D. Started out at Nicolemen/Norrish at first light. Got one jack and decided to leave around 11:00am for Squamish for some fights with chum and to practice with my pin. Started fishing at Squamish around 2:00pm until last light. Got a few hookups but not as many as what I anticipated. I thought that I was only one that crazy. Glad that there are some out there doing the same too  ;D. Oh, It was very windy at Squamish; hard to cast your line out.

Cheers,

I should have added that there are NO gas stations in Horseshoe bay so when the car says you have 30km worth of gas left and it's 50 km to Judd Road ........ Roe Kidd, it was a total Gong Show but worth every second  ;D
