Thanks! Good Advice in general. However...
I want to reduce the variables as much as possible. I'll be checking out water that may or may not have any fish in it. If I try a dozen techniques at each location, I'd be at one location all day (that may end up being completely barren). Or, I may have the Ultimate Combination, but if there are no fish, how would I know?
I'm looking for a setup I could be fairly confident in, so I could bushwhack down to the water, try a few casts, and if I don't get any hits, move on. Once I FOUND some fish, I might try experimenting with other lures, flies, etc. just to see if something else works better at that location.
For instance, if fishing a lake for rainbows, I'd probably slow-troll a black minileech or 52 buick, depending on what I see in the water. I've had MUCH better luck with flies than lures or bait for lake 'bows, but I haven't found any reliable combination for cutts.
