Went to the vedder today with my brother. Would I actually get my first steelhead of this early season or would the river be a mess. Haven't been in months, so I figured I would just go check it out and see what kind of shape it was in. Figured wed have to do alot of walking. Got to our first spot at 9:30. River was pretty dirty but found a few pockets of fishable water, tried everything and no takers. Drove to the top end and checked it out. Good Clarity but not really fishable. A couple of guys there no luck. Went to the hatchery and WOW quite a few coho still in there, some big brutes. Wished i could of gone fishing earlier for some coho, but damn all that rain.
Checked out ranger run, or what was left of it. We didn't catch any but 2 steelies, 3 dollies, and 2 nice chrome chum. Just seein that steelie on the beach made me very envious. What a beautiful fish. I hop e i can get one one day. Moved down and decided to do some searchin to find some new water. Found a spot that looked pretty good. Tried everything no luck, then i found a homade spinner in my vest, lets put it on. First cast nothin, second cast nothin, then on the retrieve down goes my stealth float, Such a great float very sensitive. I though is it a steelie, could i get my first one, with my blood flowin I slowly bring it in and........... A beautiful 5-6 pound dollie. After that not much action. All in all a gr8 day to be out. Found some good spots for next time. I also saw about 15 eagles flyin overhead. Ill be out on saturday to see if I can finally catch that elusive steelie. What a beauty.
