Re: Saturday 2-10 on the Vedder

Just got back ourselves, my wife and me, we fished the Bergman Rd. area, actually just myself fished. Water vis. was about 1 ft. if that and a fair number of other people out but surprisingly most on the opposite side. Fished from 12 noon till 4:30 all up and down but fished mostly for 2 hours that strip just across from the campground. Only saw 1 caught and that was across from us at the campground, a young fellow, about 19, 20 with a gold Islander reel hooked into a chrome steelhead and I shouted to my wife, he's got one, a hatch as we watched him drag it up onto the rocks. Well two seconds later its photo time and then they released it. I turned to Dorthy and said, I guess it was wild, but why did they drag it up on the rocks??? I'm not saying it was'nt a hatchery but if you plan on releasing it anyway why the rock treatment. Totally blew me away as all these young guys had better equipment than I had, pins, breathables, nice stuff for all four of them and yet the knowledge and experience was'nt there for them yet. Maybe next year. Still a beautiful day to be out and fun was had by all I'm sure.

We had a good day. Even went to some spots I haven't visited since last summer. The spot we went to in the afternoon you could look up and down the river about 1 mile and not see one person. We should have went there earlier as the water had limited visibility maybe 3 inches.

Hey cohokid  I don't have any idea what you're talking about when you mention flossing and secondly I can only relate what  we saw. If you think it happened a particular way so be it, could'nt care less. Fact: Wild dragged onto rocks.

draged on rocks: hardly, maybe the head touched, but it was mistaken as i almost went for the full drag, as 2 people said it was hatch. O and next time ur fishin a 4 foot deep run, 3 feet of float it plenty.

A simple "yes, it was an accident. We'll ID the fish ourselves in the water from now on." would be a dignified reply and we will all move on. The personal jabs are tasteless and unncessary.

People make mistakes, you, me, athezone, which is perfectly fine. What's not fine is when a lesson is not learned from that mistake, it keeps you at the bottom end as the rest of the society moves on.

Even if it is a hatchery why drag it on the rocks? Why not practise good C&R skills all the time. If you catch a fish it does not have to be dragged on the rocks even if you do keep it. You can pick it up out of the water than kill it if you want to keep it. This way you are properly handling fish all the time. I NEVER drag fish on the rocks even if I keep one. I am not saying you did or didnt with this one but you are saying you do drag fish on the rocks when you bonk them, so think about what I said.

You gotta catch fish first, not to drag it on the rocks.

Catch fish first hey...Hmmmm thats a good one but since you are just a smartass kid I am not even going to start with that one.

Rodney could'nt of said it better thanks. I know I've done stuff while fishing that I could of done better and had people look at me, hey I'm not perfect. As far as that goes I watched cohokid and his friends just across from me and the way they were. Pretty cool, good guys having fun and as I watched I found myself wishing I was over there with them.  Ahh, youth. Live well and laugh often.
