Got my first weekday off in a while so I decided it was a good day to hit the river. Was worried about rain as the forecast said 60 percent chance of showers in Chilliwack, but as I got into the valley the shine came out. Hit peach road around 10 am and saw a fellow walking down the trail with a nice looking fish, this looks promising I though. Tried hard for a bit there with no luck so up river I go, fish a couple spots and end up at the cedar run where I spot a nice looking boulder and toss my roe behind it, float goes down hard, I have a double take as Im not sure if Im seeing things, yep float down! so I set the hook and feel the fish on. Having not caught a steelhead yet this year my heart starts to race and I tell myelf "YES Ive finally done it!" I ask an angler downstream if he could take a pic for me, and as the fish gets closer I see a adipose fin. No big deal I think Its still a steelhead, then I see it, and its got big white spots!
turns out it wasnt a steelhead but a rather large bull trout around 5lbs, which I didnt even land because my 10lb leader was cut on a sharp rock inches from shore. Oh well there is always tomorrow
first pic is me after I realize its a bull trout, notice the frown
second pic is the the bull trout tail!
