Green Timbers March 28th
« on: March 28, 2007, 05:57:25 PM »

Caught 10 stockers and 1 5lb'er. Quite a few people fishing the small pond with limited casting spots as the pond is quite shallow. Water was fairly clear for the most part and I caught the little stockers all over the place. Its a funny place to fish and I probably wont go back but fun to fish on a work day. The fatty I caught was a nice chromer, bonked it on the head 4 or 5 times and I thought it was dead........went to wash off the dirt and sploosh, it was gone in a eyeblink. I am ripping the gills out next time !

Geez, you just admitted to "abuse to wildlife." Hopefully for your sake DFO isn't monitiring. Hopefully for the fish's sake DFO is monitoring. Conservation thru incompotence is not going to work as an excuse this time. You're Busted.

So the one time I decide to try to bonk a nice rainbow I get blasted by someone ? I see that so often here. Someone tries to post something they see as relevant and someone shoots 'em down. How is a noob like me going to get a ahead here ? So I failed this time  :'(. Thanks for the support !  I always practice proper catch and release 99.9% of the time. I rarely ever bonk one.  Get the DFO to sit at Green Timbers or any of`the other stocked local lakes and see what they can find, I'm the least of their worries. Get those guys with the ice cream pails and the bottomless cans of Powerbait and dough that make several trips to their vehicles. My post might have been graphic but its what happened and I'm not trying to hide anything. I was just posting a 'report' in the fishing report section. I know its not a great report on a sweet lake and its a bit revealing and graphic but its a report never the less.

PS: If you are a CFO and really care about 'abuse' then get off yer arse and go bust the real bad guys.  8)

Reiber, so harsh. :-\ It kind of surprises me because the thought of violation did not cross my mind when reading coryandtrevor's report. Dispatching a fish properly when one decides to retain it is a must but we have to realize mistakes do happen, which we would hopefully learn from. The question here is the intent. coryandtrevor obviously thought the fish was dead when he killed it, but it had a few more hops in it and freed itself. All of us have probably seen it happening. I've seen it when steelheading when someone bonked the fish numerous time only to find it hopping back into the river when he turned around for a few seconds.

Intent is a main topic whenever discussions occur at meetings with officers. Although rules are meant to work as black and white, officers do use their judgement when enforcing them. If an officer checks a family and finds the hooks are improperly de-barbed, then education would be a more appropriate action than a stiff fine. On the other hand, if an officer observes someone who obviously knows what he or she is doing and continues to violate, then a fine would be handed out.

By the way, if any of you witness a violation at one of the put and take lakes in the Lower Mainland, DFO enforcement is not the correct agency to call. You need to call one of the conservation offices nearby.

Surrey: (604) 582-5250

Chilliwack: (604) 795-8422

Squamish: (604) 898-2175

If you are not sure which one to call, phone the RAPP (Report All Poachers and Polluters) line at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP). The main line's dispatcher usually then sends the information to the nearest conservation officers or offices, so by phoning the conservation office, you can sometimes avoid one step and save time by doing so. If it is a violation that does not require immediate attention, you can also use this web form to report from your home computer.

Good to see some good fishing experience happening after the stockings by the way, the hatchery likes to read that. Several staff do read the forum on a regular basis when they are not feeding fish.

Again i don't see the problem since he did not attempt to bonk a fish to replace the one he lost. That fish that flopped back into the lake will not go to waste. A bird of prey or some other scavanger will find it and make good use of it.

Green Timbers Lake is in Surrey (148th Street and 96th/100th Avenue).

Wow - you can catch a load of suckers with one cast.  :D

You're a few days early Rieber. ::) Next time, use a couple of smilies so it doesn't look so serious, I think you hurt coryandtrevor's feelings. :-*
