Well, I usually make it to the lake an hour before 7am, but this morning, I totally forgot about the derby. I woke up at 10.30 and looked on the GD Board on here. Saw Dion's post about the derby and skimmed through it and thought sunday...hmm..oh snap today's sunday. Saw made my way up there to open my rod case and find no rod or reel in there. There goes more time, as weigh-in is at 12. Saw went back home, grabbed the "correct case" with the rod and reel. Put all my stuff on, and headed out into the lake. I only landed one fish before weigh-in, losing 6 others
. Couldn't believe it. I only say 2 other fish caught in an hour, with me hooking 7
. So I just make it in time for weighin with my little fish, and the guys says I can;t weigh it in because its tail is already clipped. I saw I just caught it. The guy insisted that it was already clipped. It was missing half it's tail man, I said to the guy, and then he examined it a little more and then realized it had some tail deformation. So I got my ticket and waited for me to win no prizes in the raffle, so i went back out. Oh by the way, the winning fish was 1lb. and 2ozs. So i get back out there, no boats, whole lake to myself. I land 11 fish, kept 2 others. After landing the last fish, I cast out again and start trolling. 10 seconds after, I get a massive hit, peels my line of my fly reel and snap. Bring it in to see 5ft of tippet missing. Ahh darn that was a big one. So I tie on more tippet, cast out, trolling for a few minutes and wham! Another massive hit, screaming line out, I get a hold of this guy though, and after a long fight, hes brought in. I net him and notice another fly in his mouth. Ah, what do you know, my fly I just lost with the 5ft of line attatched to it. Too funny. Anyways, this one was way bigger than the derby winner, so if i caught this before weigh-in, I would have won, but oh well, that's the way she goes.
Here's the bigger fish, 17 inches
