Looking to take the kids out tomorrow, any suggestions?
« on: August 18, 2007, 06:25:05 PM »

I'd like to take the kids out to do some freshwater fishing tomorrow.  Any suggestions?  Quantity is more important than quality here, just want to keep them interested so coarse fishing is cool.  Looking to keep within an hours drive of Aldergrove if possible.

Cheers.

Perhaps fishing off the docks at Cultus Lake for coarse fish (northern pikeminnow, largescaled sucker).

A dew worm, shrimp, piece of hot dog sent to the bottom or hanging from a float rig may do the trick.

Most locally stocked lakes are slow for trout fishing right now due to the time of the year. The lakes will pick up once again in late September/early October when the Abbotsford Hatchery begins stocking them again.

Another option would be to take the kids to the Abbotsford hatchery for a self-guided tour. At the visitor centre, there are aquariums where native fish are kept. The trout ponds are most likely opened for kids fishing as well.

Thanks Rodney,

Ended up taking them bass fishing for the first time.  Bass are stupid, so there was lots of action to be had.  I had to laugh when I saw you mention hot dogs as bait - bologna, and better yet bacon works when you're a kid and can't find any worms.
