Patullo/Skytrain Bridge, 14 anglers all got shut out
« on: August 24, 2007, 11:56:42 PM »

Tried my luck for pinks underneath the Patullo from 3:30 pm today until 8pm, south side at the popular little park there. I was in good company: 3 guys using roe bags, 1 fellow using a bar rig and another 10 of us hucking spoons out like mad. Tried a 4 inch Buzzbomb, then a 2.5 then switched to a spoon just to say I gave it my all.

Half a dozen 'undesirable and shady' types were lurking around, hucking beer cans across the beach but all the anglers I spoke to were upbeat, friendly people. Sadly, we all got shut out. Just as most of us were losing heart, a really good sized salmon jumped about 50 feet offshore. Naturally, we all got really interested again after that, but a half hour later, with no signs, no bites and a setting sun, most of us packed it in.

"Next week, they'll be thick as thieves here.... we'll get 'em," was the parting words.

Just wish I hadn't lost my favourite pink Buzzbomb... I think next time I'll just randomly pick something out of my tackle box as soon as I get out of my truck and throw it straight into the surf, as an offering to the Gods of Underwater Obstructions. Then maybe they'll let me keep the one attached to my line?

Thanks for the report. I was thinking of heading out and give the Fraser a try tomorrow. Guess I may have to revise my plan.

I've seen a good pink pulled out as far upriver as Duncan Bar this week, so the fish are definetely IN the river, but having fished it every day for the past 6 days at a variety of locations from Langley, to Kanaka Creek, both the Port Mann at Maquabeak Park and the Patullo, better than 90% of the folks I've talked to have come up pretty dry (including myself). The other 10% were either lying ;), balatant flossers :-\ or just lucky sons of guns :P.

Even if you return empty handed, there's worse ways to spend a day...

Seen some good luck on the part of the fellas in the cartoppers and jetboats over the last week, however.
