Car theft

The crazy number of car thefts/prowls every year is really starting to get to me.  I have been coming up there every year for the last 10 years to fish, but will not take my rig.  So far, the guys I go with have been fortunate enough to not get broken into, but I feel we're pressing our luck.  I have never been somewhere that the chances of getting broken into are so high.  It is starting to effect my fishing enjoyment.  Where I should be relaxing and enjoying the flow, I end up spending too much time worrying about our rigs.  Will someone please tell me why this kind unlawful act is still going on?  Can it be stopped?  What is it going to take to stop it?

The only way it could be stopped is when judges start handing out stiffer sentences. Part of the blame sometimes have to go to the owner of the vehicles. Stop leaving valuables (spare rods, loose change) in plain view. You're just inviting a break in.

I can believe that a soft judge may lead to more crime, but I don't buy the valuables in plain sight thing.  I know it is tempting crime, but I don't believe that people fishing in the Vancouver area leave more stuff in their cars than anywhere else.  Why is it that someone can park their car in Chilliwack and have it broken into but not have the same car touched somewhere else?

Mine was broken in once at the Chehalis and the Vedder. I had nothing in sight but they just broke the windows for the heck of it.

The hassles of going to ICBC is just plain stressful and the deductible is such a waste!!!

Here we go again regarding theft and break ins. A concern in the Chilliwack-Vedder area.....you bet. It's time for a reminder for all to be vigilant around the parking areas. Take note of anyone hanging around that doesn't seem to belong.  Jot down licence numbers of any suspicious vehicles. Make it obvious that you are paying attention. Look out for each other.
Don't ignore your suspicions even though you think nothing will be done. Chilliwack RCMP desk is 604.792.4611. Ask for COMPLAINTS DESK. Don't ignore.

A bunch of these reports I read about are from FWR members.  I know they're all vigilant.  It just sounds like there might be something organized here.  It was only a week or so ago that someone on FWR reported getting his outboard stolen right off his boat in his driveway!  Like I said before, I have never traveled anywhere where I've had to use the Club and seen so many break in's.  It's getting to the point that my group of guys may choose other plans for our annual trip.  I know of several other people that feel the same.  It is a different story for us to have our stuff stolen in a different country, especially if we get stranded up there with our car stolen.  I calculated how much we've spent up there in the last 10 years in licenses, hotels, camping, gas, food/beer and fishing gear.  It's roughly $15,000 US.  It sounds like this is an issue that needs to be elevated above the Chilliwack police department.

Or do like i do , go sit around where cars are parked in out of site areas. Hunting type sling shot, the sound of the river hides every thing put the howl of pain. Only one this year but seven last year. ;D ;D

Until someone rips a car thief with a steel bar across the back or breaks their fingers with a baseball bat, all the yelling and screaming and calling the judges for tougher sentences won't do a damn thing.
Judges' primary concern is to keep business coming so they can have a job, law and order are only a concern of those who are affected by the breaking of the law and order.
Car thiefs should be branded with hot iron like cattle so that everyone can see whose property they tried to steal.

I totally agree that the punishment should be very tough on those folks; but who puts the judges in their seats?  Is it not a democracy?  Why have the folks up there not demanded action from the judges?  Non action by the establishment only leads to people doing what you just mentioned...taking action into their own hands.

Good point.  Too bad none of the judges fish.  In the mean time, I'm still going back up there for another year and continue to press my luck.
