Old days at the mouth of the Coquitlam
« on: September 14, 2007, 05:57:39 PM »

Found this old copy of a newspaper when cleaning up. The Guy second from the right "Albert" was close to 90 when this picture was taken in 1993. He had fished there i think his whole life and it was sad to here just how good it was up until the gravel operation wiped out the runs. By the time this photo was taken the Coho had dropped in numbers big time as in the 80s we used to haul them in there from the boats and shore. Used to launch right at the mouth drive right in there. Now it sure is getting overgrown but far less garbage. Just so you know people used to boat there lots and Albert built the boat he's in. :)

Boy does that picture bring back some memories that is how it used to be every coho season at the mouth, like you said you used to be able to drive right there and just row out and anchor at the mouth,In my youth it was a very productive place to fish for coho as well as cutties and big dollies.so much for big business and urban sprawl ruining another great fishery.
