Another successful 3 day trip to the Thompson and once again good to see so many jacks migrating through the system. Saw sockeye and pinks in fair numbers too, surfacing in the slower parts of the river.

No rainbows on a hour try, just at dusk, only one large sucker that took a liking to the hopper. ??? ::)

What beautiful country it is, away from the rat race here, in the cities, on our roads and on the rivers.

This is what fishing should be about with so many opportunities to enjoy in the land of the mighty Thompson River. Will await until next year now, unless the river does open for steelhead on or after October 1.

Good job Chris. I live right by the Thompson River. I was wondering if you could tell me how you would target them? ex. Gear, Float, Water... I have all the rods and gear i need so im good on that part. And how would you catch the jacks, springs, sockeyes and pinks? By the way I live in Walachin and i have a good part of the river to fish..

Great report Chris. Me and a buddy are planning on heading to the Thompson either this weekend or next weekend. Ive lived in Vancouver for 20 years but never made it that far to fish the Thompson.

Chris your report is so good you are making it very hard to wait 2 weeks to go. I hope the fishing is still good! Do u know if fishing around Spences Bridge is good?

Sorry for the late reply but I was away for a week. A bait ban is know in effect to protect Thompson River Coho. Most anglers will know be waiting to see if there will be an announcement for a steelhead opening that can happen anytime after October 1. I am sure it will be announced here, when and if it opens for the 2007 season.

Sorry, forgot to anwser this question, we float fish for chinook jacks with roe.
