Chinook @ Haney wharf
« on: September 26, 2007, 09:32:03 PM »

Hooked into a very large salmon tonight down at the Haney Wharf. Another fella who was johnny on the spot with a net said he was positive it was a chinook. Lost him right at the dock trying to get a net under him. Damn shame, that. After landing a few of the 5 lb pinks a couple weeks back it was real exciting to have a significantly larger salmon on the hook, even if only for a brief time.

Switched out the pink lure and tied on blue spoon; sure enough the blues are where it's at now.

Sighted a dozen or so jumpers, all around dinner time. Rollers more than jumpers, to be honest. All looked too big to be pinks. But then again, everyone thinks the one that got away was the biggest fish they never caught. In my case it was true  :'(

The larger rollers that you are seeing now are chum salmon.

Years ago, my buddy landed a spring jack at Haney wharf, 5lb range.

Chum! I'm down with that. Do they taste better than pinks? I hope to find out soon :)
