Using Roe for Sturgeon bait
« on: October 20, 2007, 06:37:00 PM »

I usually freeze the roe i use for sturgeon fishing and then thaw it out the night before i go out. Is this a OK practice for roe or should i be curing it first and then freeze it? Anyone out their have any suggestions?

Uncured is fine, but make sure it is tied into a sac.

I have found that trying to get fresh roe on the river in the morning is the best. If this can't be done, at least try to have the roe from the run that is going thru at the time.
I have never cured mine and found that the fresh roe is always the best.

Fresh is many times beter than frozen if you're using frozen throw some juice on the bag.
