Buyer Beware!
« on: October 29, 2007, 05:12:18 PM »

This email was sent Last December 2006 to the Fenwick Canada. Emails were passed back and forth.I never received the product as promised  :-[ :-[
I give up.

Buyer beware!

SUBJECT: Fly Line

COMMENTS:
Hello, I am email your company to comment on the quality of your product. I recently purchased a Fenwick type III sink line. After only a 3 uses of the sinking line, the line has cracked and has a major coil memory. As a result I feel different about the quality of your brand. I have been a loyal customer to Fenwick for years and have never seen this kind of workmanship.

A response to your product would greatly be appreciated.

Tony,
This line has not been made for many, many years and is well past any shelf life it would have had.
At this point I would expect it to fall apart and have alot of spool memory.
Was this bought recently and where?
I would discard and buy fresh line.

Thank you,

Nissa Lundquist

This product was a gift (new in box) given to me recently and only use for only 1 month. The product did not have a expire date, which would state the shelf life and had failed after a very short period of time. As well, I know that with proper care, a quality fly line will last for many years. I believe the line was of poor quality and defective to start with. I hope you will stand by your product, as I am a avid angler that believes in quality.

I do not hope your only advise is to discard and buy another line. As that reflect an attitude of your brand. If you could send me a R.A. Number, I would like to send the line to be inspected for any defect.

Thanks
Tony

Tony,
I apologize, but this product has not been made for at least 8-10 years. We have not made or sold Fenwick fishing line of any kind since.
Do you know where the line was bought? I sure would like to know who would still have this line on the shelf.
Are you in the US? If not, maybe they still make the line in another market.
Please advise.

Thank you,

Nissa Lundquist

Nissa, thank you for your immediate reply. As for where the line was purchased it is unknown being it was a gift. As for the the make of the line, the only info I can provide is a type III FW sink line, 5WT.

I hope this helps.

Tony

Please send the line and carton to me, I would be glad to have a look at see if I can help.

I think the customer service guy is being reasonable. They should know when the last time they produced the lines. I am not sure what shelf life is for lines though.

Yep, I think he's being reasonable, sounds like some store offered some dead stock on sale, and the gifter was sold something that should not have been sold...

The customer service people have to be careful, there are alot of scammers out there...

Cheers,
Nicole

hmmm shelf life :-\ I've been using the same stinking sinking line for over 20 years. I actually liked it so much that  a few years back I saw the same line new in the box at Cloverdale flea market and bought that one. No problemo, but I ain't what you would consider the fly fishing connoisseur as I even use rubber things for flies.

That sounds reasonable to me.  I do however have real heartburn with how I was treated by AMC.  My Brand new AMC Gremlin wouldn't start the other day and they wouldn't take it back under the lemon law  >:(

I sent in the line and the response was they would send me the best line they have. I haven't received nothin. And when I emailed to follow up on the issue i never got a response. Boo!

Its not a big issue but i feel if they are such a big company they would stand by there products. The line was not that great to start with, I will stay with SA lines in the future.

Give them some time and I am sure you will get your replacement lines.

No big name company would like to put themselves into a mess over a few dollars worth of lines.

Uh, are you guys reading the same email string as me?!?

"I apologize, but this product has not been made for at least 8-10 years. We have not made or sold Fenwick fishing line of any kind since"

What were you hoping he would replace it with?   They don't have any stock.  Hopefully you shipped it at their expense otherwise your misfortune just cost you a little more  ::)  Sorry to hear about this unlucky situation but really based on the info you provided, I wouldn't expect anything more from the manufacturer.

It was shipped under my expense :-\. Just  a hard lesson learned, buy quality gear and stay away form the headaches.
