Wife had a class today, and I had today off
Dropped the baby off at grandmas and took my daughter (only gonna be 5 in January) out to Stave for some chum fishing. Got there, and the lot was maybe half full, so things were looking good. Saw a few fish jumping from up top and lots in the channel. This was a big change from a week and a half ago when we went out.
Anyways, the report. We picked our spot (the slab just above the new bar they leveled out), and decided on the bottom end since I am trying to teach my daughter how to fish, and if anyone were to come I would rather them be above us then! Got her set up with a croc. and she went out and started casting. She's pretty good for only being 4 1/2! I get set up with my float and wool. First cast, fish on. Second cast the same..
I decided to set her up with a float, cause you know kiddies can get a little bored if they aren't catching anything. She's already having the time of he life though, she's just happy to see daddy catch fish! Just then the other grandma stopped by to visit, so I got her to work on Hannahs rod.
She wasn't having much luck so grandma took over and hooked on for her, and passed the rod off to her. She fought it for a few minutes and fell on her bum trying to lean back, it was pretty cute, but eventually she broke it off.
Now the rant part! A little while later a guy came in, I said "hi" you know just to be friendly, and I hardly get a freakin smile out of him. But whatever, fine. He decides to go maybe 10 feet above me. He has all this bar with fish through-out the whole river, but he decides to go there. I don't really say anything other than explain to Hannah loud enough so he can hear that it is common courtesy to leave plenty of room for fellow fisher people especially when there is this much bar available (if he can smell your farts, you're too close). I usually ask the other guy if it's ok for me to fish above him (if it's a bit of a smaller spot). I just ignore him as best as I could but got a bit of satisfaction when on the first cast he gets a rats nest
Of course he untangled it and started fishing. I realized he was bottom bouncing (k, the norm on the stave), and was casting 3/4 across the river. So he would let it drift down past me making it very difficult for me to fish. A few times his fish were at me feet. I got a little fed up and just started casting over him when he was fighting fish. I broke my leader while I was fighting fish and in the process of tying a new one up, I guess he decided to come a Little closer. I turned around and there he was! That's when I kinda lost it. I turned over to him and said "F*** now your even closer to me!" Started going on and on about how much bar there is available and how he didn't need to squeeze us out. I just got the "I don't speak english look". He did move back up to his spot though. I was about this close to punching him, but my daughter was there, and I'm pretty sure the language was bad enough for her to hear.
It was still a good outing, a good daddy-daughter fishing trip. Just watching some guy snag fish after fish in the arse, dragging them onto the beach and kicking them back in wasn't they way I wanted to teach my daughter how to fish. He killed two ugly boots. Oh, and to top it all off he had the nerve to ask my if I had a knife to clean his fish. I told him no.
End of rant/report. Sorry for being so long.
