Vedder River, December 30
« on: December 30, 2007, 05:41:46 PM »

Took a newbie out today steelheading and for my first trip of the season. Started first light mid-river, wind was blowing hard with rain mixed made for some unpleasant fishing. After pounding through a piece of water that produced well last season and no other anglers in it or the run below with prawns and roe bags we headed for breakfast.

After breakfast started out at a spot on other side of lower river and worked through several runs with no signs of any action going on anywhere. One angler hooked a decent fish but it quickly snapped him off after a few seconds.

In one of the few empty runs it was only a matter of casts before I was into my first fish of the season. A short aerial battle and couple long runs resulted in this.

A 13lbs give or take hatchery doe.
I couldnt believe it, first couple hours out fishing this season and allready one on the license. I marked fish on license and called it a day, just as the weather was clearing up 8)

The river must be full of them if you guys got one each, and with me hooking into one also even though I lost it. ;D ;D ;D

Kidding aside, nice fish boys.

Got a late start to my first day out steelheading this season around 12 noon in the lower . Around 1:45 I was into a beauty steelie , I would guess  10 + lbs.  Yes I lost it  ::). With the excitement of my first steelhead of the season I kinda panicked when it smacked my fly . :-[ .  I won't go into the details but , all I can say is , "tight lines " everyone  :P

Winter steel and I fished lots of really nice water yesterday sunday as well, we fished the lower, mid, and upper but we didnt see nor hear of a single fish...congrats to the guys who obviously hit a pocket of active fish (they were in the same run right?) as I don't think there are many in the river right now.
