portable rod holders
« on: February 01, 2008, 06:57:06 PM »

Does anyone know where you can buy some good quality portable rod holders? I have an aluminum boat and I don't want to drill any holes in it as I don't have any rails in it.

I havent seen any portable rod holders that i would want to use.

Why not mount some proper mounts on the side of the boat?

get yourself a piece of pressure treated 4x6 and chop yourself a 6" block off of it, then cut it at a 45 lengthwise and drill some recessed bolt holes in the blocks. Bolt them to the rails of your boat and you can mount scotty rod holders perfectly. Thats what I did to mine anyways, works great

Cabelas has some in their catalogue (probably the same as mentioned by firstlight) but they'll end up scraping the sh*t out of you boat unless you use plywood backing and even then the plywood will rot in no time-how do this look to you?

If in the end you have to drill holes be prepared to use something like starboard as backing.
