Vedder March 11th
« on: March 11, 2008, 02:52:28 PM »

Had a very restless night in anticipation of this morning's trip. Got up bright eye and bushy tail at 0530 hrs and was at my buddy's place at 0630 hrs. A quick stop at McDonalds to pick up breakfast and we soon on our way. Weather was partly cloudy and the road was dry. Mark Madryga was reporting on CKNW that it was raining hard in the Abbotsford area. As we drove east on Hwy 1 the clouds were getting noticeably darker. By the time he hit Abbotsford it was coming down pretty good.

We arrived at the Keith Wilson Bridge at 0800 hrs and we observed 5 guys fishing. A guy was too impatient at my going the speed limit and he roared past me while giving the one finger salute. A little further down the road he got stuck behind a school bus. The bus was on its way to pick up school kids and had to make 5 stops.  Don't you love karma ? :D

Water level has come up quite a bit. Visibility was approximately 8 inches. With the exception of 5 cars at Wilson Road, there was hardly anybody out. I don't blame them. High winds, pouring rain and poor visibility made for less than undeal fishing conditions. We toughed it out for 3 hours trying several runs in the mid upper river with no success. We didn't see a single fisherman all morning.

We finally called it quits and went to Cookies for lunch. I was expecting to see the legendary Man with the Make Belief hat but unfortunately he was not around. The waitress sat us at a table underneath a Maple Leaf banner. >:( It was next to the washroom. I guess it's only appropriate given the season the Make Beliefs are having. ;D

Dont you hate when you plan a day on the river only to battle hurricane winds, pelting rain and half foot vis.... But I guess thats what make a hardcore steelheader.
