Huge day on the Vedder!!! March 27th, 2008
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:38:03 PM »

Well my persistence is finally paying off a little.... today was the best day I've had in a long time, my arm was soar when I got home ;D ;D ;D.

It started with me phoning my friend at 3:30 to see where he was on the river, all of a sudden a very upset friend answered the phone telling me I had just made him lose the Steelhead he had on because it tail walked while he answered the phone. I figured today would be good so I decided to go out..

We started fishing the first run and I "barbed" into a Steelhead, a quick headshake and it was gone, I was quite tempted not to call it a hook up but I figured I would anyways. Fished the rest of that run where I had hooked the 3 on Monday with only that one headshake.

We moved up to the next run and again float goes down but I pulled too soon again and after a spurt of line that one was gone also. Frustrated my friend tells me he is going back to the run that he had hooked the first one in, since he hadn't hooked any in the last hour. I decide to try the one last run higher up, which turned out to be a good idea..

Got to the next run and after putting on some fresh roe my float goes down again! This time I was patient and got the headshake. I set the hook hard and a chromer tailwalked out of the water, 2 cartwheels later and about a 40 foot run snapped me off leaving me frustrated as ever..

Just after this another angler walks in and starts fishing above me as I re-rig my hook onto my leader. The next cast my float goes down again in almost the same spot, again I wait for the headshake which I got so I set the hook again. I got to fight this one slightly longer (about 10 mins) as it took about 5 or 6 jumps but once again I snapped it off, so I decided that I wound up my leader strength (I was only using 6 because of the really clear conditions today)

I decided to try roe again but after 10 casts I had nothing so I switched to a size #2 bronze colorado. First cast the float goes down again, and again I set the hook for another chromer... I eventually land it 10 mins later, about 10 buck wild buck, the angler that was above me came down just as I was releasing the fish and informs me he had also hooked 3 fish today and landed 2 (and he left his tube at home!)

I would post pics but I only had my cell phone and I dont have internet on it to transfer them.... I will try to see if there is a way to post a couple tomorrow....
Was an aweosme day with 3 sturdy hook-ups and a couple quick ones.... Glad to see some one else also got a fish today Rod ^^.
