   I just returned from up north on Friday and while I was down at the river fishng last night my buddy caught a 14" jack on a lure, soon as he bonked it someone was over telling him that under the new salmon regulations he had to tag it out and he was now limited out.
   Being that we've been away i haven't seen these new  regulations yet and I haven't noticed them printed in here, my favorite source of information, so could someone please fill me in?

No one can answer your question as you didnt include the body of water...assuming its the vedder then I would say this person is just razzing your bud or he is full of crap...either way the guy was wrong.

I checked the fresh water salmon supplement yesterday to confirm the size of a jack and it states that for the vedder you are allowed 4 chinook per day ONE of which may be over 62 cm.

Ok I've read it now in red in the suppliment but I didn't find the part where a jack has to be tagged out in the Fraser, I'm thinking there probably seems to be a little confusion on this matter amonst the fishermen.

I guess the guy was right as a 12 inch fish would be 30 c.m.  14 inch would be 35 c.m.

Yup reading it through now, he was right about my friend being limited out but he was wrong about the fish having to be tagged out on his license as far as i can see. Actually a total of three other fishermen told us that the fish should be cancelled out on his license, so like I said before there seems to be some confusion on this matter.

"There is an annual limit of 10 adult chinook from all non-tidal waters.  All retained adult chinook must be recorded on the back of your provincial non-tidal angling licence.  An "adult chinook" in Region 2 is defined as being over 50 cm except in: a) the Fraser River downstream of the powerline crossing approximately 1 km above the Aggasiz /Rosedale bridge from Sep 01 - Dec 31, b) the Chilliwack/Vedder River (including Sumas River); the Harrison River and the Capilano River."


So it looks like it would have to be over 50cm to be recorded.

That's the way I'm reading it, 1fish limit, if it's over 50cm. it has to be cancelled on your license. I printed up the suppliment to settle any riverside disputes, with the fishing being as slow as it is it doesn't look like something that will come up that often.

Correct and I asked a fishery officier about it last week and that is the regulations at this time.
