Hey folks,

I am working on the Pacific Salmon Commission test fishery boat on the Fraser this summer and we got something yesterday which was quite sad. We had loosely tangled a small juvenile sturgeon (<50 cm) in one of our panels and it had an elastic band around it. The little fellow probably was wearing this for quite sometime as it was starting to cut into it around the scutes. I removed it and quickly put it back into the water and it went on its way. It should certainly heal nicely, but just a reminder for everyone to please stow their trash appropriately when on the river. Someone may have fired it off a bridge or something, but anyway, just like the seagulls with their heads in the 6 pack rings - it happens to fish too.
