Sockeye Bars????

Recently purchased a boat to get away from the crowds.  Just wondering if anybody has caught sockeye from bars near the mouth of the vedder?

Is it just a matter of fishing the correct depth or speed of water or can sockeye be caught almost anywhere using the (correct) methods? ;D

those bars are filled with barfishermen. try up river towards grasssy and island 22.

I was thinking to go to the west bank of Fraser along the Lougheed Hwy (between Mission and Hope). I know there are some FN reserve lands on the shore of Fraser in that area but don't exactly know where they are. Does anyone know if there's a good and accessible spot in that area where you can cast from shore? ThX.

yeah I was wondering the same thing, are there any areas areas along the south bank, between the cpr bridge and the mouth of the vedder, where I could fish from shore? thanks

Your best bet would be to pick up a copy of "FISHING FEVER Fishing the fraser river from Mission to Hope" . This book will give you every available bar between these 2 cities. It will tell you which bars you need a boat for and which bars are walk in ones. It  will even give you the gps coordinates. I know hatch matchers only has a few copies left. It is definatly worth picking up. I got mine a few years ago and I have used it many times to find a bar.

Thanks Fly_Guy. Does it also have a marked map for the FN reserve lands? I remember a few years ago I was fishing from the shore of the river north of Mission and a group of FN fish patrol came and asked us to leave even thought there was no sign or anything... I don't want to repeat that experience.

I watched a guy hit the bar right in the middle of the Harrison/Fraser confluence a few years ago. The guys in the boat were going at a pretty good clip and they're lucky they werent thrown from the boat. I try not to do anything to stupid`since I gotta be conscious to inflate my lifejacket
