What time in the day is good for saltwater salmon fishing?
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:54:25 AM »

Hi guys,
I have been away from this forum for 3 yrs as moved to another cities. This month I'll be back for fishing!! But since I don't have any equipment now I decide to go to the sea instead of vedder river.

I have booked a boat by sewellsmarina.com on the 11th for 5 hours. they ask me if I want to go in the morning at 7:30 or 12:30.  They said morning is supposed to have more fish.  So should I go for 7:30? What technique is usually useful when fishing salmon on the ocean for beginners?  Thanks for any comment in advance.

Anytime of day can be productive for saltwater salmon fishing, but if you can time your outing to generally be 2 hours before and 2 hours after the tide change, you should have better success.  Lots of other factors come into play such as structure (be it underwater reefs, or points of land), water clarity, weather and barometric pressure and so on etc.  I find the most important one to be the tide change though as it usually stimulates a feeding response from fish.

Regardless though, good luck as there are some very nice fish out there.

Usuall the morning is better, and as mentioned above a tide change. Ideally pick a day with a tide change first thing in the morning.

Hey Kmor I just got back from a charter at sewells and our guide told us that there had only been one fish caught in the past 3 days. We went urly in the morning so had a few ours after the tide changed. Zach and I didn't get one hit the whole day :(

Maybe it will pick up but it may be helpful to go later this month or do a long charter towards the island, some folks did that today and did decently but they had to pay for and 8 hour charter.

anyway thought that u may like the heads up. Good luck and tight lines, The fish may realy start to show anyday now so it may not matter

thanks for the report! I think since my time schedule is quite tight so I cannot change the date. Hope it'll be ok on 11th.  But thanks for lowering my expectation so if I don't catch anything, i would think i am just on the average.  But if I got something good, I'll post my report here :D
