Is that Blackpool, the water is the same colour ;D

You didn't used to be in the RAF did you.... Red Arrows maybe  8)

Kidding aside, my brother still does lots of beach fishing around the Fylde Coast and loves it, I was more of a pond fisher myself.

Thanks for the nostalgia (for me anyway)

Surf fishing. ;D We used to do similar style of fishing in Southern Australia, for yelloweye mullet, Australian salmon, whiting, flathead and trevally. The same type of fishing is also practiced in Denmark, but most people actually lure or flyfish on the beach than baitfish like that.

Cod are more active closer to shore when it gets dark. During the day they are typically further out in deeper water. Boat fishing for cod is mostly done on boats so they can catch fish that weigh in the double digits. Shore fishing for cod is mostly a bycatch when targeting sea trout, but sometimes people specifically target them if they are around in good numbers.

A couple of years ago Nina and I were lucky enough to see a huge school of cod that swam right by our feet when we were fishing in the harbour. One of the local guys managed to catch one a couple of days later.

That does bring back lots of great memories fishing at canal foot in Ulverston. Surely can't be Blackpool, far too clean and I can't see Barrow-in-Furness in the back ground!

What a pleasure it is nowadays to be able to fish in BC!

I fished dover in the summer for some mackerel tossing feathers and jigging. Only managed to land a sea bass and one small mackerel. The person looking after the pear said there was a big storm the day before not sure if thats a bad thing when jigging feathers cuz everyone pretty much got skunked. I was getting allot of weird looks from the locals using my salmon bait casting rod lol i think it looked a bit too thin compared to all of theirs. ::) That being said it was my most successful fishing trip in England i have tried for carp at club fisheries but couldn't get a sniff. Its too hard to make the change from salmon to course fishing. Too many little details to worry about like baiting, feeding and going all stealth pretty much crawling on the ground when you approach the water. :P

Daiwa heartland  HL-S SS862MHFB model. It was good for casting but retrieving over a 20 foot pier was a bit hard cuz the rod is pretty light. If i hooked anything over 2 pounds it would of been a work out to bring it in haha.

Only managed a bit of sea fishing whilst I was in the UK as I was mainly a coarse angler.  I still brought over my 2 beachcasters and boat rods though.  Don't know whether I'll get the chance to use them but was thinking I might try bar fishing with them, albeit taking it easy casting the v-heavy leads.
