Proper size of Wading boots
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:37:25 PM »

I'm looking at getting a new pair of Simms guide boots (online) and I was wondering, if I wear size 9 in shoes (sometimes I wear size 9.5, but mostly size 9), should I look for a size larger (like a size 10) in wasing boots because I'll be wearing my neoprene socks inside of the boots?  and if so, do you think a size 11 would be too big (if I only wear size 9 in shoes)?

Thanks for any/all replies!

Instead of guessing the sizes, the best option would be to go into the stores and try the boots. Most stores have neoprene socks for you to wear when trying out the boots so you end up with a pair that fit you perfectly. :)

good idea...I won't buy the boots there (because I can order them online for 1/3 of the cost), but I'll definitely pick up some tackle while I'm trying on their boots  ;)

Besides the higher ankle support, is there a major difference between the standard Simms Guide Boot (with the Nubuck leather), and the Simms G3 Guide Boot or the newer G4 Guide boots?  (quality-wise)?

im with KP on this one i just go up a size. the biggest problem for me is that i need a EEE width for my footwear and alot arent made wide enough for me  :( so dont forget to check that also if you need wider than "normal" shoes.

I wear a size 10 and bought size 12 or 13 to fit over my neo booties.

In the winter, I always wear a pair of heavy wool socks so you have to take that into account as well.

i always wear a pair of -40 below socks and one size is just fine. but i guess it could be a problem for some. best advice is to try them on first before purchasing.

ussually if you have tight footwear on your feet will swell up some
espesially in warm water/weather
if you would want to slip some of those little heat packets in your boots it would be nice to have some but not too much extra room
