Chilliwack River, January 14th 2009

Spent another handful of hours on the flow today.  Nice weather, Still no action, for now I'll keep blaming it on the visibility... Any steel taken lately???

Thought I would head out for the second time this year.  The first wasn't so successful, after an 1.5hrs of fishing my reel failed on me.  Time for a new worm gear and pawl.  So after getting some new parts from Stryker Rod and Reel I was ready to tackle it once again.  Destination was mid river.  Some very nice water but the clarity wasn't the greatest, so I new it wasn't going to be an easy task to hook a fish.  Did a lot of walking and exploring this trip.  Found some nice water to fish next week.  I walked into one spot that just looked prime.  Threw on a new roe sack, tossed it out and watched it drift.  Waiting in anticipation of a bite like we always do, the float went down, for a split second I thought was that a bite so I raised my rod and felt a head shake.  It's a fish, I thought to myself this is it, my first steel of the year.  The fish made a few runs but I hadn't seen it yet but it had some good weight to it.  Then it started coming in slowly and popped out of the water, their it was, a Chum, so I slowly eased it in and gently released it back into the flow to let it finish it's journey.  Not what I was really looking for, but still satisfied to catch something.  That was it for me.  What  great day on the river in the sun doing what I love.

Cheers

it's always nice to at least have "a" fish on at some point during the day, be it a trout, coho, or chum

Somewhere in between a dime and boot.  Not that bad of shape.  I was quite surprised.

U said it. But the way its been so far this year I would gladly take a coho, or even a chum just to remember that feeling right now...
