Hatchery steel in the Chehalis canyon?
« on: January 27, 2009, 07:34:41 AM »

Hey, I am new to FWR and am wondering if anyone knows a website where I can figure out how big the run of hatchery steel is in the canyon?

Steelhead stocking on the Chehalis River, or any fish stockings in British Columbia can be checked on this website:

http://a100.gov.bc.ca/pub/fidq/stockedSpeciesSelect.do

Simply type in Chehalis River in the "Gazetted Name/Alias" field and you will get all the result.

The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery is responsible for the hatchery steelhead program. If there are further questions, you can also phone the hatchery at (604) 504-4716.

Great website link Rod!  I was wondering if there might be a similar website that indicates the number of fish that have returned to the hatheries on the lower mainland rivers or throughout the province? each year or year to date?

Adult stock assessment is much more complicated than hatchery steelhead smolt data collecting for obvious reasons. Depending on which streams, they are done mostly carried out by volunteers and funding constraint limits how extensive it could be done. Here are some websites for more information:
