I floated the Elk from above Fernie down all the way through the town and took out on the other side of the town. It was only a 3-4 hour evening drift. It would be easy to make a longer drift that would last a couple days.

Thanks to all who put in their 2 bits on my question.

Since we are going as far as Fernie I thought I would mention the Columbia around the castlegar area.  Some nice size trout and walleye opportunities.
While I think you could have a fun drift trip there it sure is intimidating looking from the bridge.  So large, clear, churning.  Scary looking but fishy.   I think I would stay close to the bank + thats where the fishing is best anyways i suspect.  Gona take my fly rod there for sure.

I did my Fernie drift 3 days after i finished a two day drift of the Columbia from Castlegar to Trail. The Columbia is definitely scary with it's size but all you really have to watch for is whirlpools.
