No, I use a float a 6" in dink foam float, with a pencil lead, swivel ,leader and hook.My pencil lead taps bottom. Somebody said shortfloat the jigs, thats what I'm asking, use a shorter float?
Your lead should very rarely be tapping bottom. And never with jigs. Some runs are better fished with your lead ticking bottom every few seconds but these spots are few and far beetween.

Mattyo, don't tell people how deep they should be fishing. It wouldn not be very practical to fish a 15 foot deep pool with 1-3 feet of float. Your best bet is to keep your lead about 1-2 feet off the bottom.

Hey blader, If you look at the previous posts you'll see that he asked the question, what is shortfloating? And I answered. Tryin to explain something and I get grilled and told not to tell people how deep to fish ::) and then you post 1 to 2 feet off the bottom? Maybe my disclaimer on my posts should start with in my opinion. Cheers. I'm done with this thread ;D

Matt yo , sometimes the difference between catching fish and not, is letting your weight tick the bottom every once and  awhile which will  allow your presentation to slow down alittle bit. once again it all depends on the piece.

Yea shortfloat, you might be right. I have used a bottom bouncing method for steel but I guess there is a right time and place for every method you use. Tight lines !

i like being within a foot and a half of bottom, so in my mind if ur not tapping bottom and ur up off it, ur short floating

i guess i should have described what short floating was in my first post (sorry)
but fisherforever  did a good job of it

Bonus to short floating  if your float goes down strike it will most likely be a fish

Also if you are using a jig you won't need as much lead

This is the great thing about this site ,we get a chance to learn something each day
