Do trout introduced to lakes by the hatchery have the ability to grow large?

Do trout introduced to lakes by the hatchery have the ability to grow large or are they only able to grow to a certain size because of genetics?

most of the fish stocked in by fisheries can grow very large very quickly because they dont use of food stores to reproduce therfore just getting bigger & bigger. this is especially true for the trout they stock into the interior where the amount of bug life can get them growing fast and furious. Alot of trout in the interioir lakes can pack on 1lb in a season or even more!!  :o (season is only spring to fall)

Sterile fish will grow quicker than reproducing fish..
That said it will depend on the amount of feed available.

Why would they stock sterile fish and not fertile fish?

I would think you would want the fish to reproduce like mad. Especially in lakes where they don't have to leave.

One of the reasons would be is that if there is not a creek or river for the trout to spawn, the females will be unable to dump their eggs. This puts a lot of stress on the fish and can be unhealthy for them.

Triploids are all non fertile females. They grow big fast and are usually super chrome.

And just to add to that, they can get HUGE! More than a few records have been set by both naturally occurring (rare) and man-made triploids! Basic genetics have to be in place, then given sufficient food and environment, and of course limited fish removal, ... Watch Out!
Of course the last factor is the toughest to find these days...
