trolling with a gang troll
« on: May 24, 2009, 06:33:45 PM »

I am just starting to lake fish again and i was just wondering what a good length for a leader between gang troll and lure would be. its been about 20 years since i fished lakes so I'm a little rusty on it. any info would be appreciated. thanks

Depends on the water clarity (as previously mentioned) and also I have found, the water temperature. Again colder water, shorten the troll. Also depends on the size of your gang troll as a small willow leaf needs less leader than a giant beer can or ford fender.

It also depends what it is that you are trolling behind the troll. If the lure has a lot of action then you can usually use a longer leader, however if it is something that does not I usually have better luck with a shorter leader.

wedding bands and snell hooks come in a package with 6-8" leader that is all you need and it works best.  a spoon maybe a little more.

use the ford fender with the large blade in the back, a snell hook with half a worm threaded on.
chartruess wedding bands for trout and pink for kokanee both with worms threaded on. snell works for both.
