Almost the same thing happened where I was on the beach at Playa Grande Costa Rica. Surfing big waves with some huge Dorados, and Snook. The locals were really into it with their surf casting their baited rigs. So I joined them with a spoon for salmon. After two days I finally hooked a fish about 10 pounds but it broke my hook. Yes the hook . I also wore a life jacket all the time because of the under tow. I saw a photo in the local paper of people on the beach crowded around a drowned tourist and the caption said something like this ; every year some tourists under estimate the currents and get swept out and drown. Wear a life jacket if you are fishing or surfing in waters that you are familiar with. AMEN. The local surfer dudes were also fishing in the late evening because they saw fishes under them to sizes of 20 to 50 pounds . Sort of like that big fish in the video. Can't wait to go back with some mustad 3 X strong hooks.
