Chilliwack River, July 17th 2009
« on: July 17, 2009, 06:44:20 PM »

Well, a friend and I tried our luck on the vedder today. Well, today was not a lucky day. We arrived at the river around 6am, it was a beautiful morning at had all the promise of a good day out. That was until we started towards the river from the car and i managed to get stung by a bee/wasp before I even made it to the waters edge (luckily im not alergic to them). We fished the upper river for a bit, caught nothing and saw nothing. We decided to try another spot. Our second location didn't bring about any more bee stings or any fish but I did manage to attack a stump with my knee.... the stump won the battle and i left with a scrape and a bruise. We tried a few more spots throughout the river with no sucess. I chucked flies, we tried roe, wool, and blades. Nothing. We did end up seeing some sockeye surfacing mid river, which is a positive sign. However, the day ended as it started. Our pride was stung, we had caught no fish. Still, i can't wait to get back out there. Im determinded to catch my first salmon on the fly... just have to find the right water.

I was also out on the river this morning. Nothing for me or any of the people I talked to but I did see at least three different springs roll in one of the pools I was fishing.

I fished this morning from 5 to 11 with nothing :'(  Last night however I had the good fortune of bonking a super fresh 17# buck, about as chrome as they come ;D All in all it was a 19 minute fight and my first Springer landed on the pin.

Hikin through a trail yesterday on the vedder, I was swarmed and savagely attacked by baldheaded hornets. I have about 10-12 stings on the left side of my head and a couple on my fingers. My buddy who is allergic to wasps and hornets knocked down a nest without either of us knowing, and me being the one behind and moving I was the victim. Never experienced anything so painful in my life! I am so thankful my buddy was not stung as we were out of cell coverage and a good 30 mins from a hospital.
