Carp
« on: August 08, 2009, 05:03:17 PM »

Does anyone have some tips on how to catch carp. I was walking around some ponds by my house today and saw a big carp jump. I went out with my rod and had no luck. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

The ponds are beside the number 11 highway on Bateman road in Abbotsford. I believe they are called the Willband retention ponds.

For bait use corn, cubes of luncheon meat, paste/dough ( I make mine from ground trout pellets) or large worms.

http://www.flyfishersrepublic.com/

Go to this link and the fifth article down is a 2 part series written by Ian Colin James from " The New Fly Fisher " tv series on Carp on the Fly. Very informative on Carp behaviour. I've fished Carp with a 6 weight fly rod on Osoyoos lake this summer and once you get one on they are very heavy and initial run is unstoppable until they want to stop.

A couple of years ago in late April I caught one on a single egg in the lower Alouette river as it flows through the Pitt Meadows area at Neaves road.
