Mill Lake Crappies ????
« on: May 07, 2009, 06:52:02 AM »

Has anyone been to Mill Lake for crappies yet ? Can they be caught off the dock ? Does the weather need to be warmer ? I tried Mill Lake in early fall of last year and got skunked ,so this year I will try earlier in the year .

Yes and no. Black crappie belongs in the sunfish family (Centrarchidae), which has 32 species. Some of the more well known species in this family include large and smallmouth bass, white and black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed, longear sunfish.

I actually catch crappies in that Trout lake in Vancouver. I just walk down from the Nanaimo  SkyTrain station with my fold up rod in hand. I made curry fillets out of a couple and the taste actually was not bad.

Actually that is the only time I ever ate anything I caught from that lake but I never tried Crappie before and wanted to try it.
