Fished the high tide this morning in Richmond.
LOTS of fish moving through.  Jumping, porpoising, etc.
First 4 casts, fish ON!  Action was pretty steady the 2 hours I was out.

Yep, they are in. After 4 trips with no hookups, I fished for 1.5 hours on the tail end of this morning's flood tide. Hooked 7-8, landed 5, kiiled 2. Many other strikes and bumps. Good numbers of fish moving upstream. On the business end of my line was a FWR spoon, 2007 model.

Nephew wanted to partake in the pink fishery. You know the story, nephew wants nephew gets. Picked him up bright and early and headed down to the Lower Fraser. Fish were present in abundance when we arrived at our chosen destination. Nephew can't wait, grab his rod and headed down to the beach. Before I got my rod out of the car, he's got one on his first cast ! After a spirited fight, he lost it. Second cast, bam he's got another ! He lands a male in the 4 lb. range.  In the next couple of hours he hooked 2 more pinks and a pikeminnow. A good start to the day.

sounds good for the morning, tonight was a little slow but 2 guy's and I were the only ones getting them. 1 each, where we were, anyhow!

Went to south arm after work with high hopes.  While walking around the area I met with Rod and Nina so I said hi.  But decided to carry on downstream for a less crowded area.  I think Rod is like the Pied Piper of us fishers.

Tied on a tarnished and dulled Rodney Special and started chucking.  After a little while I looked upstream and see Nina bringing in a fish with Rod standing at the ready with his net.  Good for Nina.

Fish were jumping everywhere.  Saw few seals as well.  Worried that the seals would chase the fish away but we all continued our fishing.  About an hour into my efforts, BAM.  I bought a new reel and was eager to see it perform.  It was fabulous.  The drag let line out when needed consistently and smoothly.  I'm a happy camper when the fish got netted.

I continued to fish and for a little while everytime I look upstream I would see Rod patiently waiting for Nina to bring in her fish.  Maybe I should give Rod his lure back.  It may work for him too. 

DFO officer was also there checking our equipment and licenses.

It was another relaxing evening at South Arm again. Nina and I arrived at our usual spot just before 5:00pm. blaydRnr was already hard at work, so was Lucky and Pierboy. Vince and his dad joined us soon after, followed by Fishersak and his wife. It was also nice to meet a few others on the board - Obi wan, Chuck feather, Aurora (good to see you got one!). This is what makes the pink salmon fishery so enjoyable. Once every two years, everyone gets to catch up again, sort of like a reunion I guess.

The first hour was rather uneventful as expected. It seems like when the current is running high during the incoming tide, fishing dies off completely. Once the water slows down as it approaches flood tide, then the bites start. Lucky decided to leave us after hooking a pikeminnow, which was a rather big mistake. At 6:20pm, we saw plenty of splashes downstream in the far horizon. Everyone started concentrating on their lines, knowing that it would start anytime. Few minutes later, the same school was actively showing itself in front of us, but no one had hooked anything yet. Another ten minutes went by, still no hook-ups. Just when we were about to conclude that these were not biters, Nina missed a fish. On the following cast, she quickly hooked one and it was the first female pink salmon of the season for her.



More fish arrived and they were not as far out as earlier. Fishersak landed one not long after Nina's fish. Pierboy and Vince were also into some soon after. Nina then finished the evening with three hook-ups in a row and landed one of them. I on the other hand, couldn't seem to trick a fish to bite and ended up cleaning fish and carrying them to the cooler for Nina.



One fishery officer made his check along the shoreline around 7:00pm. Every angler had a licence and stamp as well as the right terminal gear (barbless hook). It's fantastic to see such high compliance!

Rodney you seemed to be like me lately. Any fish that hits is lost. When your buddies are hooking fish you are looking and rolling your eyes LOL

Funny thing is this is usually me. I am the one that usually has the horseshoes and has all the luck!! Hmmm well tomorrow is another day and I have my alarm set for 5am to hit the morning tide than go back out in the evening.

High tides are getting later and later every night. Pretty soon it will be too dark in the evening when the fishing is good.

Hmmmm got mine yesterday at low tide.... have not had a touch on high tide in the Langley area.

Another afternoon on the Fraser with excellent results. I met Scott who was a reader on the forums and saw that there was success to be had in New West. He hooked 4 or 5 and landed 3. I hooked 5, had one very close but lost it, and landed one healthy looking male and a chrome bullet female. Tons of fun!

Trolled around Steveston Island...2 passes north shore by Gilbert -#3 then across river to the south shore... ALOT OF FISH THERE ON THE FINDER ...and many surfacing.... it gets very deep right off that rock jetty...just feet from it it's 30-60 ft of water. Did get a hit by Steveston Is. but it was no pink.... BIG FISH...60 secs later...leader snapped.....lost a spinner that I've owned a long time..... BUT a fun day regardless. Also warm but a hint of fall is in the "air".

I tried two locations on the Fraser South arm starting at low tide all the way to slack at 7pm on Sep 4.  A number of fish were rising.  One hit on my spoon but nothing for me in the end 

It was funny because I didn't see anyone else getting anything except the guy who stood right next to me.   Eventually I got bored and moved just for the hell of it, same story.  They guy right next to me got one.  I didn't see anybody else getting into anything. I console myself with the notion that my potential good luck was transferred to them .   Can't help thinking there is a large element of luck getting these because I was doing the same as them and fishing very similar spoons.

Tried my luck on the South side of the North Arm this morning and nothing.  Nothing rising.  Maybe later today.
