i was wondering about those you can buy at walmart, they are in a vacuum bag, i don't recall the manufacturer; $15 1/2 pound;
are they any good? they look kind of dry but probably you don't have to put them in the freezer...

I bought 3lbs of Chum roe from Bruce's market in Maple Ridge yesterday. They had lot's of roe on hand and their fish monger even sells borax from behind the counter. But ... unfortunately as Matt suggested the fish were not bled out so many of the skeins are bloody. I picked by way through and got a few of the less bloody ones. I was able to work some of it out but its still less than ideal.

Probably either Berry's Bait roe as most of the roe in the LML seeems to be from Berry's.  Its very gooey but people catch fish on it... apparently.

Do you guys put your unused roe back in the freezer after its been in your vest pocket all day?  I have a hard time thinking bacteria are flourishing on something saturated in salt and sugar... not a very hospitable environment for bacteria.

Freds Custom Tackle has started getting there own Roe in and they got lots of it, and it is very high quality and works excellent!! IMO worth trying if you are out Vedder way.

You can get fresh roe from Berrys, you just have to call it in ahead of time,,,,  I dont find Berrys roe to be gooey, its nice and rubbery when I buy.. I have used the frozen stuff from Berrys too and its always been good,,,,,, One question, the blood in the roe, is it bad because you want to treat it with borax?? Youd think the fish wouldnt care about the smell of blood, so thats all I could come up with???

for the freshest roe that stays bacteria and scent free, blood is bad.

Any stores still have uncured roe or would they have likely sold out by now?  its stored flash frozen I think
