gill ripping followed by several fists to the head. rocks and clubs are cruel  :-*

ive seen the head butting...almost KO'd himself on a spring
i use the club because when you rip th gills the fish bleeds to death slowly were whem you hit it with the club its brain is done so it feels now pain when you bleed it

Use gravity.
The head should be at a lower angle than the tail.

I'm surprised more people don't jsut punch them. It sounds ridiculous, but a solid punch with the fish lying on a rock will do it in one quick action. ;)

I have jsut recently fully invested my time into fishing, and have always heard about bleeding a fish, but I have two questions;
1) how do you remove the gills or where do you cut them to do this.

2.) what are the benefits of doing it over just bonking it and then filleting it?

Thanks guys!

the heart beats for a few minutes after you bonk them
andrew5  1 once its bonked reach in and pull them out or slice them in half with a knife
then grab it by the tail and hang it till it stops bleeding
2 keeping the blood in can cause the meat to spoil faster and it keeps a healthier color without the blood
hope this helps

just bite the heads off the little guys and spit them out.  bonk, bleed all in one step.

Seriously though, if you're knee deep in the river with grass riverbanks, there won't be any rocks nearby to bonk your fish.  A small club could come in handy...

I've used one before, and now am looking around for one but haven't found a local supplier yet.  Maybe I'll have to make it myself.
