So before going into the report a little story. Last year I never purchased a steelhead tag. Was over on the island, busy with other things and just never got out. I moved back here in the lowermainland in August of 09 and fished during the salmon season but when fall came work was busy so I never bought a tag for the winter. I missed fishing for steelhead so today I went out and bought my new licence and purchased the steelhead tag.

Got to the river I wanted to fish and started with a jig tipped with a prawn. Started at my favorite spot on the river. I pounded it hard for about 15 minutes with nothing. So I moved down. Fished another spot for about the same. Something in my head said go back to that first spot for one more cast. So back I went. First cast and FLOAT DOWN!! I see the fish rolling and after a brief battle my first steelhead of the year comes to hand a nice wild 8lb buck. Back into the river he goes. I made a couple more casts in the same spot incase a female was kicking around. A few casts later FLOAT DOWN!! This time a nice 5lb bull trout comes to hand. Nice. After that I decided to let those fish rest as I didnt want to hook the same fish again. Got into the truck and moved to another location up river.

This is another one of my favorite spots. Approached the spot and just sat appreciating this river and the sounds of the outdoors. It was so peaceful. Anyways I set up with the same jig and a new prawn. After about 15 minutes FLOAT DOWN!! Another nice steelhead on. This was a bigger battle as the fish was jumping, rolling and doing everything he could to spit the hook. I eventually got a hold of him and it was a beauty 10lb wild buck. After that I just sat back relaxed and said I cant top this and made it the end of my day.

Not bad 2 steelies, 1 bull trout for my first time out for steelhead in over a year. Sorry no pics as when I am by myself I dont like taking the fish out of the water for too long to set up to take a photo. Especially with a fish as precious as the steelhead.

Sounds like a good day, I should have gone out instead of hanging out on the couch, but I did catch a buzz.  ;)

Once a steelheader, always a steelheader, even if you skip a season or two. ;)

Congratulations, buddy!
Good on you! :)
