Wedge or Pyramid
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:25:44 AM »

What is your bar fishing weight of choice for the Fraser River , upper / lower . I mostly use wedge weights for upper Fraser bar fishing however , I see there are some 16 and 18 oz pyramid weights available and how would they fare for the upper river . Another question . How do you cast ? . I would just like to know how you cast . I cast over the top witch on a couple of occasions snapped the rod  >:( . I have seen some people cast sideways , underhand ......... I just would like to here some of your ideas  :) .

Hard to say... most of my friends use wedges on the upper Fraser for sturgeon, mainly cause they say wedges lay more flat against the bottom compared to a triangle. I'm using an assortment right now and I'm going to do some testing myself with some 8-10-16 oz triangles and same weight with the wedges from shore.

casting from the side was how I was taught when I was a kid, mainly due to not having the rod bare the entire load of a large weight and instead having the line bare the weight. After all it's the forces of gravity that pull down more so trying to pitch something over your head.
