Tidal Fraser River, July 17th 2010
« on: July 18, 2010, 09:16:04 AM »

Headed out on Fraser between Fort Langley and Mission.  Lots of other boats but we didn't see any other with fish on.  My partner was able to get a 12 lber and I had a large one on until my line snapped.

We were able to assist another boater who was drifting after his motor died.  Instead of drifting down river, we towed him toward calmer water and he was able to restart then be on his way.  He didn't have an anchor, so no opportunity to stop his own drift.

All in all a great day on the river.

I fished the upper Fraser Sat & Sun . Not alot of real estate up there .Saturday was busy with alot of boat traffic . Sunday was a little quieter .I guess with the slow fishing and most of the popular bars still under water people are going to wait a couple weeks for the water to drop . I did about 12 hours bar fishing to no avail . I did get the bell rung just as I dozed off but  nothing on , just my weight decided it wanted to move down a bit  :P . What a heart stopper when that happens  :o . I noticed up and down the river all the side channels have orange Scotchman buoys , I wonder what that's all about  ???

I was out barfin on Sat as well. No fish on my rod. Between the 7 bar rods hooked 3 yes 3, sockeye!  Who says sockies don't bite in rivers. Buddy below us got his little football of a spring. 77 cms.

I recently acquired a boat and have not used it yet on the tidal portion of the Fraser.

What are the methods to fish in that area of the river, from the boat? I know about anchoring at river mouths and cast/retrieve, but is trolling an effective method?  Other?

I don't know about the tidal portion of the Fraser . I used to drop the boat in at the pump station up at Chilliwack and troll the green line to the Fraser in the Vedder mouth . The water is up high enough in the Vedder to get out to the Fraser . I actually seen a boat down in the canal casting lures anchored as I drove over the vedder canal . I used coho spoons as well as ironhead spoons trolling there .

How long ago did you see the boat up the canal?  I met a guy w/ a grey 19' jet boat on the Fraser that mentioned he had gone up there recently......
