Targeting Salmon In the Lower Fraser!!!
« on: September 20, 2010, 05:55:36 PM »

I know it might be a stupid question or it before but. What is the best way to try and target these fishh in the lower fraser, as in say Richmond? Isn't there a bait ban? So i Guess spoons, spinner i dunno?

Reason why i am asking is i was around the water today an wow lots of fish jumping, alot of rolling and those fish rolling were not more than25 feet from shore and from where i was standing they were some big springs in the mix along with some maybe jack springs or coho. So yeah any help would be great thanks.

I know I have tossed spoons for pinks and this will work for Coho as well.  You can also use the bar rig and bait.  I saw a guy hook a larger salmon with berkley eggs a year ago but he lost it.

I still have the Shimano convergence rod if your interested.

Um I'm pretty sure the Fraser is closed to salmon fishing until the beginning of October. Check the regs before you go out.

Not so fast.

Check out DFO's Tidal Fraser regulation page here:

both portions of the Fraser have a bait ban right now.  I am guessing what you are seeing are sockeye heading up the river...which are closed as well....
If there are coho try spoons!

A BIG piece of pink and white wool.  Starting Oct 9 the bait ban is lifted so start curing up some roe in preparation too!
