so we took the boat out for the first time but then we hit some big waves and its a small 12 foot fg and it got completly filled to the rim with water so we were going down then as we were rushing into shore the engine fell of the back of the boat!!!!! we managed to retain it but now it wont start so im not sure if we will ever make it there

Don't mean to sound preachy but your lucky this thread is not about how some poor schmucks bought it ... out in the chuck in a 12' fg.

I was wondering what techniques you would use for fishing the mouth of the Indian River (trolling,jigging,floating,etc.)?

As far as i know the road back to the indian river is still closed due to the introduction of elk up there a few years back.... might be another way to drive there that i'm not aware of but pretty sure a boat is the only way..

I take my 12' fg boat out in that area all the time.  Yes you have to point your bow into the swell to keep from getting swamped.  And having a tether to backup your engine mounts is always a good idea.

Having your stuff float away if you get swamped is the lousy part...

That said, lots of crabs in that area.

For salmon, I'll be hitting them up pretty soon.  Jigging & maybe trolling.

also good for sea cutthroat and large flounders (up 2 five pounds)... lotsa lingcod around (have to release them) and some large perch 2 (1-2 pound range if you know where to hunt for them)... best of luck
